Would I vote for me? Part 1: Family

This election is an important turning point for the City of Mount Airy. I truly do not feel that statement is exaggerated concerning this election.  No matter what stage of life you are in, this election will have a major impact on how you live, work, and play in our city.

If you want your opinion to be counted, to be heard, you must vote in the primary being held October 8th and then the election in November.

I am the candidate of change. It really is that simple. You have choices in this election. Get to know your candidate or your current council person. Ask them your questions. What is their vision?

Since I am a tax paying voting citizen….I thought I would “investigate” myself to see if I would be someone I would vote for in the upcoming City of Mount Airy commissioners election.

This is a 5 part series. This is Part 1 of 5.

Part 1: Family

Part 2: Background

Part 3: What are your skills that you would bring to the council? What will you do?

Part 4: The Current Issues

Part 5: What about some personal questions? What do you like to do? What are passionate about?

If you want more detail about ANYTHING below, just ask!

Family:

I was raised in a military family. My father was a 20-year Air Force Sergeant. My mother was a 30+ years elementary educator. My brother is a retired Colonel Apache helicopter pilot from the Army. My sister is a  30+  years (and counting) educator in special education.

I am so thankful to God for giving me a wonderful wife. Diane is an amazing person. She is a travel pediatric nurse and her speciality is cardiovascular patients. We have been married for 3 years and she is my center of my world. I love her with every fiber of my being. We are an example that you can find the love of your life…later in life. She was raised within a farming family on one side and a textile family on the other. She knows what hard work is. Diane is not just my wife, she is my best friend!

I have 4 sons (18, 20, 22, 24), 2 step sons (15, 19), 1 step daughter (25), and 1 grandson (2)…yes we are a large blended family.

I have experienced losing both parents.

I have raised my family here for 28 years.

We currently have one son in the Mount Airy school system. I have experience from the parent side of education with City of Mount Airy Schools and Millennium Charter Academy.

I was raised on “tough love” and to be disciplined and respectful of others. I have attempted to instill those same characteristics in our children.

Tomorrow’s section is PART 2, Background.
